Y.I.S. is an international elementary school that was formed in October 1989 to serve the needs of the expatriate community living in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Yogya is a small city in Central Java, not far from the ancient temple, Borobudur and Indonesias most active volcano Mt. Merapi. The city is often refered to as a center for education and Javanese culture. There are literally hundreds of academies, universities, seminaries and institutes in the area. We believe that our school has and will continue to make a significant contribution to the region. Our students at Y.I.S. come from nations all over the world. While our language of instruction is English, we share a multilingual, multicultural environment at school. We employ three expatriate teachers from the United States and Australia, and an equal number of Indonesian teachers who provide invaluable assistance in the classrooms.
